Fat Bike Fun part II

I´ve been planning to do a re-cap on my old fat bike fun video. Local trials but during winter. Yesterday i finally had some time off to do it. This video is shot just in the near surroundings of where i live.

Here is the first one i did a couple of years ago. Gotta love the contrasts of winter vs summer.

30 seconds to nowhere

IMG_8180Everything went according to plan. Slam69 delivered the new cranks from Raceface and i fitted them on my lunch break today. After fitting the cranks and having a quick snack i had about 15 minutes for a test ride.

I took a spin down the harbor. It´s just right down the street, about a 30 second ride. Today was cold as hell with a wind making the minus 20 degrees Celsius fells like 30. The ice is ready now, ready to ride. I rolled down the bridge and went about 100 meters out on the ice. First time this year. Suddenly it hits me. This little town far away from everything and yet so close, is an amazing place.

Imagine, to go from this.

To this! In just 30 seconds.

It´s actually incredible and sometimes you get a little bit blind on your home turf. Expect lots of ice cycling posts the next few months. I guess frozen archipelago only exist here and it´s all mine.

The emptiness of a broken bottom bracket

Sooo… My ethirteen bottombracket finally died. Honestly i´ve been waiting for it to crash. When i built up the Mukluk two years ago there were not much to choose from regarding fat bike cranks due to the 100 mm wide axle. I finally got my hands on the ethirteen and they looked awesome. Still i soon noticed that the sealing in the bearings were quite un-seald. The plastic cover came loose all the time and the left crank kept unscrewing it self. Also there were no plastic tube to cover the axle. Quite crappy if you ask me. ethirteen is a high end brand after all… Any way, after my last disassemble of the bottom bracket the balls just fell out (lol) and the bottom bracket shell was as usual full of dirt.

Without the axle cover the axle takes quite a beating.

It could have been an easy thing to fix if the axle would not have been 30 mm instead of the standard 24 mm. Then new cups would do the trick. But now i need a whole crank set. Worst of all i need it before Saturday when i´m doing a thing for French TV on ice riding. Fat bike parts is not easy to find where i live and i had to go to my other “local” bike shop, Slam69 in the UK. Now a Race Face ride crank set is on its way from England. Just praying it´ll get here i time. *fingers crossed”

One week rest for the Muk in the suit department at my store.

Oh, regarding the French TV show. I´ll get back to that next week. =)

The only way is fat

Looking back at 2014 makes me smile. I wrote my thoughts about the past year over at Fat-bike.com and whats the best thing about fat biking. The community. Just click the pic and read it.

Even though the last couple of months been busy and there´s not been much riding or blogging being done (didn´t even got out on global fat bike day) But i´ll sure get back in the saddle now. Last year i got the most miles in January. Life slows down, the every day pace starts after the stressed out holidays. We got loads of snow and the ice roads are all getting plowed up. We had a set back weather wize, loads of snow and warm tempratures makes snow conditions horrible.

Still it will freeze up and then… I’ll go ride again.
